ABOUT OUR FACTORY

Belphins Nigeria Limited is a Nigerian company incorporated in 1994 by seasoned professionals and entrepreneurs with the basic aim of processing ginger for export amongst other things.  The company has a modern ginger-processing factory situated at Kafanchan in the southern part of Kaduna State, Nigeria, where ginger is grown in large commercial quantity.  

The factory which is on a 4.5acre piece of land consist of:

• The Main Factory Building

• Raw and Finished Product Warehouses

•  Administrative Block  

• Staff Canteen

• Power House

• Boiler Room

MAN-POWER

The factory employs 150  technical and non- technical staff including expatriates. When the factory becomes fully operational, this number is likely to double.

 CAPACITY OF THE MAIN PLANT

The factory was designed specifically to produce ginger oleoresin.  This is a dark brown oily viscous liquid, which is extracted from split-dried ginger using ethanol as the main solvent.  The installed capacity of the plant is 1metric tonne of split-dried ginger per hour yielding between 40 to 50kg of oleoresin.  The equipment is designed to operate continuously for 24hrs,  this means operating  3shifts of 8hrs per day.

RAW-MATERIAL

The major raw material for the factory is ginger. It constitutes one of the chemistry that can be found in natural herbs, which are essential to the human body.  The Nigerian Ginger is one of the best in the world. If properly processed, e.g. oleoresin, it can be used in the pharmaceutical industries in making drugs and can also be used in the cosmetics and food industries.

Ginger is a seasonal crop, therefore to ensure continuous production the commodity has to be stockpiled during the harvest season. To this end, the factory has a  large raw material warehouse  capable of storing over 300 metric tonnes of dried split ginger at a time. See About Ginger  

RAW MATERIAL HANDLING

Since the products produced in the factory are edible items, handling of the raw material is very essential. Ginger being an underground stem, needs to be properly cleaned of impurities before being used. To this end, the fresh ginger is first washed to remove all impurities, sliced and dried in a dryer or in the sun on cemented floors in other to reduce the moisture content to an acceptable level of 10 - 12%. All the facilities for ensuring clean raw material are available in the factory.

ETHANOL

The solvent used for the extraction of oleoresin is ethanol with a concentration of between 90 - 95%.
